EVENTS IN TIENTSIN REALLY AMOUNT TO A DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST BRITISH EMPIRE
A CHALLENGE WHICH MUST BE MET
LONDON, JUNE 19 (REUTER)~THE EVENTS IN TIENTSIN, WITH THE SUPPORT BEING GIVEN TO JAPAN BY GERMANY AND ITALY, really amount to a declaration of war against the British Empire and it is a challenge which must be met, declared Admiral Sir Roger Keyes, addressing a parade of A.R.P."volun-` teers in London yesterday.
Admiral Keyes was convinced that "if we take a resolute stand and showed the whole world that Britain is ready to enter the struggle, making full use of her wealth, industry and man-power, we could win without a clash of arms.”
DELIBERATE AND IMPUDENT FLOUTING OF INTERNATIONAL
LAW AND OBLIGATIONS
LONDON, June 19 (Reuter)—" Japan, doubtless inspired by her friends in Europe, has deliberately and impudently flouted both Britain and her own inter- national obligations," declared Mr. Arthur Greenwood, Labour M.P., speaking at West Bromwich.
Mr. Greenwood said that it must be made clear to dictatorship and militarist powers, whether of the East or the West, that Britain and the other Democracies will not tolerate this organized attempt to undermine the foundations of international law and to impose the rule of force on the world.
Peace was imperilled, not because of the desires" of the people of Germany, Italy and Japan, but owing to the ambitions of their rulers and such ambitions must be curbed.
Mr. Greenwood criticised the policy of the National Government to whom he ascribed the present threa-. tening situation.

The conversation is said to have lasted a considerable time, bat nothing has been revealed as to its nature.
The value of Hongkong, ta, Great. Britain, the paper declares, has been greatly diminished in conse- quence of the Japanese blockade. If Great Britain had any under-" standing "for the realities of the new situation in the Far East and wished to reach a settlement of the dispute with Japan, she ought to return "Hongkong to China.
The pro-Japanese provincial Government, is prepared, the paper says, to offer an adequate sum to Britain by way of compensation for cession of Hongkong.

TIENTSIN, June 19 (Reuter)--The Tientsin blockade : took a more threatening turn when supplies of fresh food were cut off and turned back by motor boats patrolling the Hai River.

The determination of British residents to see the blockade through has been stiffened by the harrowing experience of two compatriots who attempted to visit the racecourse in the Japanese controlled area,
