Silver prices dropped 1/16 yes terday for both deliveries, the quotations being 19.7/8 for Ready and 19.5/8 for Forward. Silver advices reported Speculators as having operated both ways. Bear's covered to a small extent. The market WBS steady. American Silver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.
The London/New York cross-rate was quoted at 488.25. New York/ London was quoted at 468.1/8.

The market opened 1/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as com- pared with Wednesday's closing rates.
Early in the morning the market displayed a steady undertone due to fair enquiries for iminediate and forward deliveries "by trade and consuming interests, but it was significant that speculators pre- ferred to maintain side-line positions, which, no doubt, was due to present political uncertainties in the Far East. Also rumours of a" possible agreement on the Anglo-American barter plan in the near future exercised a restraining influence upon speculative activity. It is feared that the application of this barter plan might possibly üpset the future efficient control over the supply and demand situa- tion by the International Regulation Committee. Futhermore Ameri- can absorption figures at 44.377 tons for the month of May were not generally regarded satisfactory.
Later in the session the market turned easier, prices declining by 1/8 cent for all deliveries.
Closing tone was quiet.

The market presented an easy appearance with an early decline in prices. This was attributed to the uncertainty in Washington and slow exports, which influenced foreign selling and liquidation. Price movements throughout the day were confined to narrow limits, and losses were small. A better tone was evinced towards the close. Traders were watching the situation closely.

This market was dull and featureless, but the undertone was steady. With the exception of near options, there were no buyers, and prices tended to drift downwards.
