Recreio, Mindanao Featured

In Close Clash; Jesse el Arculli Shows Outcurve

(By "R.O.Y.")

The Recreio-Mindanao clash provided the closest battle of the week-end baseball programme, and although the other swo matches decided were rather one-sided, both had their exciting moments, and interesting plays. The Union Brewers, by virtue of thelr 6-1 win over the Hongkong Baseballers, kept their hold on tht league leadership, one full game ahead of the U. S. 5. Min- danao and Chinese Baseballers who won over the Recreio and South China outâts respectively.

The Club, with an experimental "ime up, did quite well to hold their powerful opponents to,a fye run margin and should have been even closer, for the poor support accorded Larry, Law- rence whose steady, work on the mound, held the Brewers to only two earned runs.

It will be remembered that Mr. T. A. Higson, chairman of the Lancashire committee, has tor the years been an advocate of two day championship game idea. and now that players hold similar views the subject becomes really interesting.

A few days ago a player who has no axe to grind express- ed the view that at the start of the season the two aldes always likely to make the best show were Yorkshire and Lancashire, and that, the victors in the two meet- Ings each season were the like. llest to earn title honours. %
