To-day's market displayed a much easier appearance with marking down in opening prices. The decline was brought about by hedge-selling and profit-taking, and later, New Orleans selling caused further downward price movements. However, prices of near options found support in some speculative buying on the scale- down.

"Better sentiment, alded by prospects of a settlement of the Briggs manufacturing strike, imparted an initial buoyancy. On the whole, the market was dull with small gains registered during the day's trading.
