Record Of Speech By Mr. D. J. Sloss, C.B.E.
A gramaphone record of a speech in which Mr. D. J. Sloss, CHE, MA, Vice-Chancellor of the Hong- kong University, gave" his "impres- sions of Chungking, the..., wartime. capital of China, was"broadcast on Friday at 10 o'clock (Hongkong time) over the Chungking station XGOY, operating on 25.21 metres or 11. megacycles.
During his recent visit to the capital, Mr. Bloss saw many im- portant Chinese leaders and their activities in reconstruction and war relief behind the front lines. He observed the excellent morale of the people. In this major war of resistance against a ruthless aggressor, and saw the devastation wrought upon the civilian popula. tion in Chungking by the Japariese bombings on May 3 and 4. He was an eyewitness of another air raid on May 12, and saw scores of bombs released that killed inno- cent people and burned their horises.
Deeply Impressed.
Mr. Sloss was also deeply im- pressed by the work of the China Industrial Co-operatives; by the new spirit of the Chinese youth and their educators, and by the work of the Chinese women, under the leadership of Madame Chiang Kai-shek, in the
