High Tribute Paid By Sir Archibald Clark Kerr
SINO - BRITISH RELATIONS
A high tribute to the courage and endurance of the Chinese people was paid by Sir Archibald Kerr Clark Kerr, British Ambassador to China, in the course. of his speech delivered before some 50 members of the Sino-British Cultural Association, when they gathered at the fourth annual meeting of the Association in Chungking, on May 16,
Sir Archibald Clark Kerr said, in part:-
"We British in China have a great deal to learn from the Chinese in the matter of courage. One of the things that has impressed me most since I have been here has been the outstanding calm and fortitude with which the Chinese have borne the tribu- lations which they have had
to bear. It has been, it seems to me, something for which words of praise are
no
enough.
"In this move that has been forced upon the Association from Nanking to Chungking. I claim that, so far as China is. concerned, this move has been a proof of her strength, her resourcefulness and Indomitable fortitude and If I claim that for China. I claim that for the Sino-British Cultural Society also. Let 115 carry On ladies and gentlemen, in the steadfast belief that not far off there is a dawn of a new and free
