The market opened 1/4 of a cent high for all deliveries as com. pared with Tuesday's closing rates.
After early steadiness, which reflected conditions prevailing In London and New York, the market became quiet due to dealers and speculators preferring to adopt a hesitant attitude before entering Into fresh commitments either way.
Although the outbreak of a strike in a Motorcar factory in De- troit did not affect the New York market as yet, still operatora in Singapore' are closely watching the situation.
Demand for "actuals"", continues to be good, but due to the tight- ness of "spot" Rubber 1'is difficult to satisfy these requirements. In view of these facts higher markets are expected pending settlement of the strike.

The market displayed exceptional strength in ""spots" at the opening. Other initial prices were lower than the previous day's close. Southern buying and good local speculative buying induced covering by short interests. Later, foreign demand and speculative short-covering Imparted impetus to a general advance in prices, which remained almost at the day's high levels.
NEW YORK BUBBER
After an easy opening. prices resumed their advance which gathered momentum on better foreign news, new speculative buying and short covering.
CHICAGO WHEAT
The market showed a strong" appearance from the start. Prices advanced sharply on reports of high temperatures in the South- West. General speculative buying was influenced by reports of damage and lack of moisture. The market remained firm at the day's high levels.
