"Your Excaliencles, Gentlemen, On the occasion of the Corps annual dinner It is customary to give a brief account of the Corps' activities during the past year. But before doing so I would like to extend a very hearty welcome to all our guests.

There is no one who takes a keener interest in volunteering than His Excellency and" the strength and keenness of the Corpe to-day is due to a very great ex- tent to his encouragement and active support in all that con-
cerns the Volunteers,
extend them all a hearty welcome. But there is just one other name I would like to mention and that is Captain Whitmarsh of the Royal. Marines
"Jumbo" took charge of the training of the 2nd Improvised Hattery just after it was form- ed and has been their constant friend and adviser ever since. He is due to leave the Colony very soon, but I can assure him that it will be a long time before he or his clock-arė forgotten by the 2nd Battery. Once again I would like to ex- press my thanks and appreciation for all the help so willingly given by Command Headquarters, the Hongkong Infantry Brigade and the 8th Heavy Regiment. R. A.
