The market opened 1/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as com........... pared with Monday's closing rates.

Early in the morning the market ruled quiet and featureless, being entirely dominated by the impending quota-announcement.

Later in the session, however, good buying orders for "spot" and forward 'deliveries received, by overnight cables from London and New York together with speculative short-covering caused the mar- ket to become steady, prices registering an advance of 1/8 cent for "spot" and 1/4 cent for forward options,

After a fair volume of business having beeing transacted on basis of quoted rates, the parket closed with a steady undertone.

After ruling quietly steady, the market improved on the quota release, which was fully discounted, with sellers reserved. There was some trade-buying.

NEW YORK COTTON

Improvment in this market was in evidence at the opening. Prices advanced on good trade buying and covering by short inter- ests. Later, they derived sustenance from the steadiness brought about by favourable Liverpool cables. The day's, high levels were maintained at the close.

NEW YORK RUBBER

The announcement that the quota has been fixed at 55 per cent was favourably received here. There was a substantial advance in prices at the opening. The advance gathered momentum on new speculative buying. Absence of sellers was the most significant feature.
