Mra Loulas Shannow returned on April 9 from hospital to her home in Norbury, S.W., after try- ing to swim out to the liner taking her husband from Tilbury. Mr. Shannow is a pianist in the liner's orchestra, and they have been married twenty-three years.

His wife went to see him off in the Royal Mall Uner Highland Chieftain, as she had done many times before.

After the ship had cast off Mrs. Shannow stood on the quay waving a handkerchief. Then the crowd tanding оп the landing-stage aw her dropping into the water. She was fully dressed, and began to struggle towards the liner.

A dock worker threw her a life- belt. She was dragged ashore and taken to Tilbury Hospital. A slater and brother-in-law took her home in a car.

THE KING IN BOMB RAID
