MOSCOW STATEMENT
STATEMENT BASED ON MISUNDERSTANDING;
PREMIER'S STATEMENT IN CROWDED COMMONS
LONDON, MAY 10 (REUTER)—A CROWDED HOUSE OF COMMONS HEARD THE PRIME MINIS- TER, MR. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN, MAKE HIS EAGERLY AWAITED STATEMENT ON THE PRO GRESS OF ANGLO-SOVIET NEGOTIATIONS, - THIS AFTERNOON.
At the outsel, Mr. Chamberlain referred to the statement issued in Moscow regarding the British Government's proposals and said it was based upon a misunderstanding of the suggestions actually put for- ward. Conversations were still in progress and the House, therefore, would not expect him to discuss those matters..
Mr. Chamberlain added that he thought tight, In view of the Moscow statement, to place the House of Commons 'in possession of the general line of conversation In respect of certain eastern Euro- pean states, In pursuance of their declared policy, assisting those states to resist any attempt, if such were made, to threaten their in- dependence.
Particularly, they made it plain, that it was no part of their intention that the Soviet Government should commit themselves to intervena, irres- pective of whether Britain and France had already in the discharge of their obligations, done so.
