to it that as far as the monsters therein mentioned came under my observation the statement of them is substantially correct. I desire to Arouse His Excellency's attention to the fact that the Resident Superintendent in all steps taken in which he bore a part simply obeyed orders, therefore, the supposition of his taking personal and undue interest in "Madismis affairs" cannot be maintained.

I take this opportunity to revert to My previous assertion, that in all the proceedings connected with this matter, No officer of Police took personal interest in the matter, this, with it appears to be demurred to by the United States Commodore, I beg most strongly to iterate. "Madismis" statement was an ordinary and incidental matter, it was received and treated in the usual way, without any expectation of seeing or hearing from him again, and without further thought about him.
