I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of Your Excellency's letter of the 8th instant, and to express my regret that, owing to the absence of my chief Officers of the Colony to whom I had occasion to refer, I have been unable to forward an earlier reply.
I now beg to transmit the enclosed. Mr. Bridges's recollections of his interview with His Excellency, Mr. Lane, and a letter from Mr. Superintendent May, forwarding Mr. Grandy's statement of the part taken by himself in the case of Madam Love. To His Excellency Commodore J. Elliot,
