You are of course acquainted with the facts under discussion between the United State Authorities and the Government, and it is only necessary for me to explain that the vessels referred to by Commodore Elliot are those of the "Florida Bates" and the "N. B. Palmer".
As the Commodore's statement is at variance with that which I have received verbally from you, I directed by His Excellency, the Governor, to call upon you to give your recollection of the interview with Mr. Law, and its result.
