NATIONAL CAUSE Nucleus Of Country's Financial System

BY T. PAUL GREGORY

The importance of banks in a nation's economic system cannot be exaggerated. They are stabilising factors in strengthening credit and enhancing nation-- al prestige. It is, however, in case of war that they assume their most vital role, as then they cease to be merely financial houses lending money for profit, but become integral factors in the general scheme of their country's military operations. This is abundantly shown by the lessons of history.

As mentioned above, the only" danger connected with these banks was their possible fallure, but this was of rare occurrence, owing to careful management and the un- canny knowledge they had of one another's financial position. Even at the present day, native banks are stil considered to be quite safe, and owing to the fact that the rate of interest is much higher than that paid by foreign banks. they enjoy the patronage of the conservative masses of the people.
