Hongkong, No. 37 1855. Know all men by these presents, that I James Thomson, U. S. Consul, before whom came Thomas Cahill, seaman, upon his oath, doth depose and say that on the 23rd of October last, about half past five o'clock in the afternoon, James Madison, the carpenter of the American Bark Reindeer, came to the house of Mr James Mitchell of Hongkong, and stated that he came.

Here to discharge, Mr. Mitchell gave him some medicine, and went to the U. S. Consul's and asked for his discharge. What he could get on discharge, And then went to the Magistrate's office the police station, and told them there (the police) that he would not get his discharge from the Consul, and that he was afraid to go on board the Barque. because he had stopped over his time.
