IN CANADA
Tourists from other countries are estimated to have spent a total of $269,000,000 in Canada during 1938, while the expendi- tures of Canadian travellers in other countries aggregated Corresponding $120.000.000.
estimates for 1937 were $290,- 000,000 and $124,000,000, ves- pectively.
Of the total, expenditures it Canada, information available In- dicates that travellers from over- seas countries spent about $14,000,- 060 in Canada in 1938 as compared with $17,000,000 in 1937, the balan- ces ($255,000,000 in 1938 and $73,- 000,000 in 1937) arising from the expenditures of tourists from the United States. In view of the extent of the recession in business in the United States, particularly during! the earlier months of the year, the results achieved are distinctly gra- tifying.
