The fist prize money of $41,244.35 - In the St. John Ambulance Cup, run at Fan- ling last Sunday, was collected by a refuges named Lam Yue, reported to be residing at the Lak Kwok Hotel, yesterday. The ticket drew Ebony Idol, which won the race by two lengths from Fel Xhungu

BETTERED
One' Wah Yan College, Kow- loon, record and two Wab Tak Commercial College records were bettered at the fourth annnal athletic meet of Wab Yan "College, Kowloon, held at the Kowloon Football Club ground yesterday.
Although 11 records set last year remained unbroken when the programme of 39 events had been run Wah Yan College Kowloon. should enter the inter-school meat second favourites to La Salle College.
Among the best standards set were Lo Yue-shau's 100 metres sprint in 12 seconds, Lam Kwok- leung 400 metres in 58.4 seca., Fong Ding-pong's 800 metres in 2 mins. 22 secs., Ho Shlu-yin's 1,500 metree in 5 mins. 20. secs, and Lo Yue- shau'a and Tip Ping-kwong's re- cord high jump of 5 feet 4 incues. Was Tak Commercial College records' were broken when Chan Fook showed unusual versatility by setting a new mark of 38 feet in the shot put, and running a record 800 metres in 2 mins.. 297 secs. Philip Chung equalled a Wah. Tak C. C. record when he won the high jump with a foot 11 inch clearance.

Blx records were broken at the annual sports meeting of St. Paul's College held at Caroline ΕΠΙ stadium yesterday.
Chan Wah-kuen won the in- dividual championship with 28 points, and himself was responsible for creating three records.
In the 1,500 metres Chan re- corded the time of 4 mins. 56 secs. Others who broke record were flu' Chia-wan who carried off the Junior individual "championship.
The Small Boys' Individual championship was won by” Tsui Kin-yun.

Sir was interested to learn from the newspapers that a summ of $50.000 from the Lord Mayor's Fund, London, was donated for the purpose of purchasing medical supplies in Hongkong for relief
work.
It will interest readers to know that it has been ascertained that these supplies were apparently purchased from a foreign firm in Hongkong, not British or Chinese, only last week. It will surprise many to know that even a tele- phone message for competitive bidding was not made to certain Arms which held substantial stocks of medicine in Hongkong. To my knowledge, there is no au- ditor's report available as to the manner in which this summ of $50,000) of public funds was made available to the people.
What I along with many others. would like to know is who spent the money and who stippited the $50,000 worth of goods, and also whether a statement is available: of the prices pald? It is only reasonable to expect an explana- Hơn as to why this sun wag not diligently expended for purchases of goods at the best current pričes available in British and Chinese firms in Hongkong, as the ad ministration costs In Hongkong could not have been more than the two per cent, which is charged' in England CAN
Those of us who have the in terests of China at heart would like an answer to these questions and, in view of certain ugly rumours which have cropped up in this connexion, I suggest that invoices and a complete suditor's report regarding the expenditure. of this $50,000, tó be published in- mediately in the local press.
