Leonard And George Choa Win Doubles Encounter

THE ANNUAL COLONY OPEN TENNIS CHAM- PIONSHIPS BEGAN AT THE HONGKONG CRICKET CLUB GROUND YESTERDAY when three doubles and five singles matches were played. The best match was that between J. W. Leonard and George Choa, of Craigengower, and Wong Shiu-wing and Luk Ding- cheung of the Chinese Recreation Club, won by the former by scores of 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

The result, though by no means a major upset, was a trifle unexpected, as it had been anticipated that the steadier combination of the Chinese pair, and their superior experience, would pull them through, but the winners were full value for their victory. There were a number of good rallies, but the standard as a whole cannot be graded) as particularly high. How- ever, play on the whole was consistently good, in view of the fact that it was a first- round game.

The match began uninspiringly. the losers clinching the first set at 6-3 without much opposition.
