BRITISH AND FRENCH RECOGNITION FOR FRANCO REGIME
Labour Leader's Outburst In House Of Commons
LONDON, Feb. 28 (Reuter)—Announcing the British
Government's recognition of Gen. Franco in the House
of Commons, Mr. Neville Chamberlain said that the Gov--
ernment had given careful consideration to the position in Spain.
아
As a result of the fall of Barcelona and the over-run- ning of Catalonia, Gen, Fran- co was now in control of the greater part of Spanish terri-. tory, both on and beyond the mainland.

Included in this territory were most of the industrial centres of Spain and the sources of most of Her products. Even if the Repub- licans
the southern sector should continue to maintain some show of resistance, there was no doubt -now of the ultimate issue of the struggle, a prolongation of which could only result in further suffering and loss of life. It seemed impossible to regard the scattered Republican Government as exer- cising a. settled authority as the sovereign government.
His Majesty's Government had noted with satisfaction Gen. Franco's public statements con- cerning the determination of Film- self and his Government to secure the t aditional independence of Spain and to take proceedings only

MAJOR ATTLEE'S
CHARGES
LONDON, Feb. 28 (Renter) --- * "You should be impeached as a traitor to Britain."" declared Major C. R. Attlee, Leader of the Labour Upposition ad- dressing the Prime Minister during the course of a breeze in the House of Commons fol- lowing Mr. Neville Chamber-" lain's announcement of the re- cognition by Britain of Gen. Franco's Government.
Major Attlee reminded Mr. Chamberlain that last Thursday he (the Prime Minister) had stated that he was not the in a position to add to the provicus statements he had made on the subject of re- cognition. Mi. Chamberlain had then said that the British Govern~: ment had decided to leave in the hands of Lord Halifax and himself the final decision as to the recogni-
