I am happy to learn that the fine inflicted upon Customs Officer "Mielies" has been paid into Court, the question as to our claim for costs is concerned is terminated.

With reference to the more general and important question, I hope you will allow me to state that the Laws of the United States would, undoubtedly, and most properly, be enforced in any of the harbours of your Country, so the Laws of Great Britain
