34.
Dean Sir,
25th Feb 1878
I went on board the "River Bird" at 8 A.M. this morning and made a strict search of the vessel for the escaped prisoner, Mr. Mitchell, but without success. I then proceeded to the United States ship "Reindeer", and by diligent enquiry ascertained that he was not there; from all I have learnt, I am led to believe that he is either on board the "Pachaton", or at the United States Consulate.
The United States Consul was not on board the "River Bird" this morning; there were no visitors other than the ordinary visitors.
