My Dear Sir,

His Excellency, Sir John Bowring, is desirous that I should see you on an important matter of business this afternoon, and I have accordingly done myself the pleasure of calling at your Residence, but, unfortunately, have not found you at home.

Will you do me the kindness to give me a call at the Government Offices at as early an hour after 10 A. M. as may be convenient to you? Or should any other time suit you better, you may command me, but as the matter presses I should be glad if it could be done early.

6.1.0. 24th October 1855, 5:10 P. M.

James Keenan, Esquire, United States Consul.

Yours, (Signed) W. J. Mercer.
