MAGNIFICENT RUINS We and the testimony of this in the vast and still magnificent ruins that are scattered about in the tropical forest. Towns, tem ples and irrigation works which, in the course of centuries have been abandoned and

Vast Mining Areas To Be Developed
CHUNGKING, Feb. ́8 (Int'l) A Mining Industry Study Bureau has been established here by the National Govern- ntent to develop the various rulnes in the south-west and north-west. Foreigners are al- lowed to invest money in the enterprises.
More than half of the capital of any limited mining company must belong to Chinese citizens and also over half of the number of direc- tors must also be Chinese citizens. The positions of chairinen of board of directors and of mana- gers must be filled by Chinese only. No transference of ownership or mortgages of mines to foreigners will be allowed.
The mining certificates given by the Ministry of Economics will be withdrawn in the event of the company being unable to open for business two years after registra tion or after one year's suspension.
STATE CONTROL The bureau is divided into many departments, each headed by an expert. Officials of each depart- ment have their own assignments, mostly doing research work in con- The Ministry is also co-operating nection with the mining industry.

One important aspect of the question is that probably never be- fore has China been so keen about making full use of her natural re- sources.
