ONE-SIDED HONG ENCOUNTERS

(BY® R.0.Y)

IN THE MOST IMPORTANT MATCH in the Men's Softball League played at King's Park yesterday morning, the Recreio trounced the Canadian Chinese to climb into the league leader- the Midgets and the ship making a triple tie with Chinese Baseball Club. A feature of the game was mány bone- headed plays made by the Canadian Chinese, The Recreio also pulled a couple but fortunately for them they did not quite so much damage.

The Flipino Club played nne. defensive ball to hold the Trojans scorcless after the second innings when Duve Leonard turned up to replace Evangelista at third base. The hitting in this game was very

Japanese Retire After Two-day Battle At Taikongling

Heavy Fighting Along The West River Front

(FROM OUR OWN CURRESPONDENT) CHUNGSHAN, Fed. 5——A two-day hattle between Chinese and Japanese forces at Talkongling, about 35 miles north of Canton, east of the Canton-Hankow Railway, resulted in the repulsion of the enemy, who were forced to retire southward to Shenkong.

The Japanese left behind scores of dead, while a Chinese non-commissioned officer was klied. Protected by artillery fire, the Japanese infantrymen launched a violent attack on Talkong- ling sa February 1 from Minfeng, according to a communique of the 4th Route Army.

The Chinese left flank was hard

pressed but succeeded eventually in SPLENDID

repelling the Japanese.
