Ready Sliver price for dropped 1/16 yesterday to 20 but the Forward mate was unchanged at 19.11/16. Silver advices report- ed speculators as having operated both ways to a small extent. The market Was quietly steady. American Silver was quoted at 42 3/4 for Spot.
The London/New York cross- rate was quoted, at 467.75 New York, London was quoted at 467 13.16.
Market
Opened uncertain. Subsequent ly the tone appeared steadier. Towards the close it was again on the easy side.
Sterling
Business was done at 1/2 15/16 for February delivery and also for Cash. The market closed with sellers at 1/2 29/32 January/March. probably April, and 1/2 7/8 May. buyers at 1/2 15/16 February/April gïnd 1/2 29/32 May.

Prices sagged under the pressure of professional seiling and liquidation on the more favourable political outlook. The market was also depressed by the heaviness in Liverpool, continued scant foreign demand and prospects of additional moisture in the South- Western areas.

The-market opened 3/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as com- pared with Monday's elesing quotations,
Early in the session the market ruled steady, although it was slightly affected by a native holiday, most dealers having closed. their offices.
After some business having been transacted on basis of quoted rates the market became firm on persistent buying by dealers and spéculators, and on sellers holding off prices gradually advanced by 3/8 cent, for all deliveries.
Closing tone was steady.
The better sentiment was caused by a favourable interpretation of Herr Hitler's speech, which, it is believed, will contribute to further clarification of the European political situation.

The Singapore market was closed during the afternoon due to a native holiday.
