A steady market, but price movements were somewhat irregular. Near positions ruled easy pwing to liquidation, selling by mills and hedging, due to reports from Washington that the Administration Intends to ask Congress for authority to give growers 4,000,000 bales of Loan cotton for immediate marketing in return for a reduction in acreage, during 1939. Distant positions advanced on moderate for- eign baying. However, sentiment was confused with Senator Bank- head's dental, with traders renewing a waiting attitude.. At the close, the undertone was steady.

The turnover to-day improved and buyers were somewhat morë confident. The market was firm on very steady cablés from abroad. Short covering, and buying by foreign interests and dealers readily absorbed offerings.
CHICAGO WHEAT
Early in the day, prices declined under liquidation, owing to help- ful week-end moisture from rain and snow in Oklahoma and Kansas. The heaviness of the Overseas' markets and a slow International de- mand further depressed the market. Trading was not broad and prices were easily influenced by any adverse news. Finally, the mar ket rallied on short-covering and evening-up operations, pending a clarification of the situation, abroad.

Operators were disinclined to enter into fresh engagement to any larger extent preferring to await a clarification of the European poli- tical situation. Consequently only a moderate volume of business was transacted.
During the last trading hour, however, tal enquiries by dealers caused a slight price advance of 1/8 cent" for all deliveries, the mor- ket closing with a quiet but steady undertone.
