The United States Consul appears in Court, and protests against the jurisdiction of the boat in this case.

I was born in Sunderland. I shipped out as seaman and Carpenter in March last at New York on board the American Ship "Reindeer". On Monday before last I came on shore here and complained to the American Consul of ill-treatment, as I had been flogged at sea and so forth.
