✓ (Boty) SUMMONS FOR DEFENDANT.

AT THE CHIEF MAGISTRATE'S OFFICE, VICTORIA, IN THE COLONY OF HONGKONG.

In the cause in which John Maddison is Plaintiff and Captain E. W. Nicholes, Commanding the Solid Barque, "Reindeer" is Defendant.

To William Jones, a Constable of the said Colony, and to all other Constables of the said Colony.

Whereas the said Plaintiff hath this day informed and complained to me W. H. Mitchell, one of HER MAJESTY'S JUSTICES OF THE PEACE in and for the said Colony, that the said Defendant on the 20th October instant, in the Harbour "Reindeer", in Victoria Harbour, did unlawfully assault and beat John Maddison, and he prayed that the said Defendant may be called upon to answer for this offence and may be further dealt with according to Law: These are therefore to require you forthwith to summon the said Defendant to be and appear at the Office aforesaid on Tuesday, the 23rd day of October 1855, at the hour of 12 o'clock in noon, before such JUSTICE or JUSTICES OF THE PEACE for the said Colony as may be there, to answer to the said information and complaint, and to be further dealt with according to Law; and be you then there to certify what you shall have done in the premises.

I, William Jones, a Constable of the said Colony, do hereby certify that on the 22nd of October – at 6 o'clock P.M. I duly summoned the within-named Defendant and served a true Copy of this summons on the Defendant in manner following, that is to say: Personally.
