The market opened 3/8 of a cent lower for all deliveries as com- pared with Wednesday's closing rates.
Easier advices received from New York were responsible for the market displaying an easy undertone throughout the day. Early in the morning some business was transacted on basis of quoted rates, but later in the session the market became wenk due to selling. pressure, which mainly was attributed to speculative accounts.. whilst prices gradually declined by 3/8 of a cent due to the reserved attitude of buyers.
Closing tone was quiet.

It would appear that the market, for the time being, continues to be subject to outside influences, such us the downward trend of the Stock-markets in London and New York, apprehensions of weak- $1.05
ness of Sterling developing on uncertainties with regard to the poll- $105 tical European situation etc. However, a redeeming feature of the downward trend of the market is the general expectation, that, the IRR, Committee at their meeting on February 14 may decide on leaving the permissible export-quota for the second quarter of this year uncharged from the first quarter Le. 50 per cent despite the $15.86 satisfactory consumption-outlook.

Traders were apathetic, due to the fall of Barcelona, the seat of the Spanish Government, and are now awaiting fresh European de- velopments. The market closed at the lowest levels for the day and the undertone is uncertain,

Prices declined at the opening and were further depressed on adverse cables from Singapore and London. The castness of the foreign markets was due to nervousness regarding the political situation in Europe and brought about liquidation on the local ex- change. Factories. however bought on the scale-down.
CHICAGO WHEAT
The market opened weak on adverse Liverpool advices and European uncertainties. Subsequently, prices rallied on lack of moisture in the South-West area. The rally, however, was short- $1.80 $780
lived and prices again declined owing to liquidation, presumably to di, protect current holdings. The lack of any follow-through on the $100 part of buyers was a most discouraging factor.
