Patrick O'Brien, 41, chauffeur, described by counsel, as a "profes- sional polygamist" and said to have a sinister influence over women, pleaded guilty at the Old: Bailey recently to charges of bigamy and theft, and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment..

Mr. Laurence Vine, prosecuting,{ said that since 1927 O'Brien had. participated in a total of five marriage ceremonies, four of which were in London churches. Two of the marriages had been dissolved and he had a previous conviction for bigamy.

On Sept. 1, continued Mr. Vine., O'Brien bigamously married Missi Gladys Kathleen Thompson Bury St. Edmunds register office. He also stole a ring from her.

Since his last discharge from prison he had been unemployed. He apparently preyed on women of the domestic servant class.

A detective said that O'Brien: had proposed marriage to one' woman and the banns were pub Eshed, but as there was no money to pay the fees they merely lived together.

The officer added that Miss Thompson was going to have a baby at the end of March. She had a little money in the bank, and O'Brien persuaded her to withdraw
