The Waratah was last seen by the Clan Macintyre of Port St. Johns, the two ships exchanging signals. She was then bound for Capetown.
The wreckage now being washed ashore seems to have come from a ship that has lain under the sea for a long time and is breaking up. The Waratah is the only big vessel known to have been lost in the vicinity.
