In sympathy with conditions prevalling in London and New York the market ruled quiet and dull throughout the day. Very little business for prompt and distant deliveries was transacted on basis of quoted rates, operators apparently preferring to restrict operationa until after the New Year Holiday,

Market quiet but steady. Rubber stucks held in the United Kingdom showed a decrease of 455 tons for the week ending December 28, 1938,
NEW YORK COTTON **
There was moderate hedging and liquidation in to-day's session. while trade interest was smaller and outside interest lacking, owing to the year-end holiday. "Spot" cotton was inactive, while textiles were Arm.
NEW YORK RUBBER
The market was listless, with some small factory demand, which was offset by liquidation.
CHICAGO WHEAT
"The market ruled in sympathy with steady foreign cables, while the cold wave in the North-west and drought in the south-west bals- tered sentiment and prices were slightly higher.
