An earthquake, the shock of Crystal Palace which was severely felt on the Aldershot Peak, was experienced in Hong-Reading kong shortly after one o'clock yes- Queen's Park R. terday afternoon. Its epicentre Brighton was calculated to be 80 miles from the Colony.

It is believed that this is the first earthquake for the last ten years of which the epicentre has been recorded so close to Hong- kong.

Following the disaster at sen when she crashed into Verde I- land. of Mindoro, and was nearly lost, the British freighter Grey- stoke Castle, or 5,863 tons, was recently towed into port at Manila, with a hole in her bow extending back almost 20 feet.
