London, November 3.

THE "FINANCIAL TIMES" DEPLORES THE COMPLACENCY of the Prime Minister, Mr. Chamberlain's reference to the Far East in the House of Commons on November 1, especially so soon after the unusually strongly worded Note by Washington to Japan. The Bri. tish Government never made a general demarche of this nature.

The failure of Britain and America to co-operate in the Far East has frequently been a matter for surprised comment.

The statement of the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, in the House of Commons on Tuesday, in which he declared that Mr. Clement Attien was “too gloomy" over the future of British trade In China and emphasised that after the war was over Japan would need Britain's financial help, is caustically taken to task by the local American newspaper "Skaughai Evening Post and Mercury.”,
