NEW LIFE AS NEW STATE

BRITISH HELP

FOR CHINA

Government States It's Attitude

London, Oct. T.

The British Government has " accepted the position with re- gard to the support of China as set forth in the report and

resolution before the League of Nations' Council, said Mr. R. A. Batler. Under-Secretary for "Foreign Affairs. In the House of Commons yesterday in reply to a question by Mr. David Adams. Mr. Adams wished to know what was being done in regard to the latest League rè- commendations.

The British Government, old Mr Butler, has done its best to fuini its obligations under the resolution adopted by the Assembly Council, and it would continue to give sympathetic consideratior to the requests of the Chinese Go- verament in conformity with those resolutions.

What we did was to save her from annihilation and gave her a chance of a new life as a new State, which, even if it in-. volved the loss of territory and fortifications, would perhaps enable her to enjoy and develop a future national existence in neutrality and security com- parable to that of Switzerland. "Therefore I think that the Government deserves the approval of the House for the conduct which PREJUDICE TO TRADE We had no treaty obligations sayed Czechoslovakia from destruc- Major H. A. FLANDIN TO ANSWER IN PARLIAMENT

Parts. Oct. 7.

A telegram sent on October 2 by Herr Hitler to M. Pierre Flandin, the Right Wing lea- der, caused something of a sensation when It was read to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber by a Socialist deputy yesterday.

The message, which was in reply to one sent, by M. Flandin to Herr Hitler, read:

"I sincerely thank you for the friendly congratulations you sent me and I give you assurances of my grateful sentiments for the energetic efforts you are making for an entente and complete col- laboration between France and Germany.

"I have followed them" with sin- cere interest and trust that they may have wider results."

M. Flandin stated that he wished

to say nothing before the Com- mittee, but was willing to reply to Parliament. regarding the issues involved in the message--Reuter.

Prague, Oct. 5. The immediate demobilisation of two classes of troops has been an- nounced. Other classes will be demobilised progressively--Reuter. HUNGARIAN FLAG FLYING

Prague, Oct. 6.

The Hungarian flag is being flown from the municipal buildings on the Czech side of, the Danube at the town of Ko marom, which is partly Hun- garian and partly Czech.

The bridges joining the two havies of the town have been opened to traffic and thousands of «Hun- garians are pouring into Komarom to fraternise with their brethren on the Czech side.

It is rellably reported that the Czech troops are withdrawing. It is expected that a commission will be set up to-morrow to decide when and where and in what cir- cumstances the plebiscite will take place to see which areas will'.go to Hungary-Reuter.

The Government, he said, will use every opportunity available to take such steps as might be within their power towards the object which Majer Proctor had in mind. the_Reuter.

"I drew the document up myself. It was not drawn up by Herr Hitler," he declared..

It

seems to me that strongest argument against the in- evitablity of war is found in the universal aversion of the people themselves and their hatred of. the thought of starting to kill one - other again.

"What is the alternative to this black and barren policy of the inevitability of, war? In my view we should all seek, with all the means in our power, to avoid war, by discussions car- ried on in a spirit of friendly "collaboration and goodwill,”—

Reuter.
