The Japanese advance on Hankow is dealt with in a leading article in The Times today, which states that the Japanese War Minister, General Itagaki, is learning by experience, when he admits that the fall of Hankow will not mean an overthrow of Generalissimd Chiang Kai-shek.
11
After reviewing the present stage of hostilities and particularly the holding up of the Japanese advance in the Chengehow sector, the paper comes to the conclusion that Hankow will not fall into the bands of the Japanese before the middle of November of this year.
