The Singapore Rubber market opened with prices, 1/8 lower for all deliveries buyers upparently adopting a waiting attitude pending further news. Shortly after the opening on receipt of telegraphic advice of serious political tension in Europe, the market slipped un- der heavy selling pressure from speculators and dealers (reported for London interests) and business was done down to as low as 28-1/8 for January-March corresponding rates for other deliveries.

The afternoon session was practically a repetition of the morn- Ing market and business was recorded down to 27-1/8" for Jan.- March

Statistically the Rubber market is very healthy, but until the Sudeten problem has been satisfactorily dealt with it is difficult to 261. visualize substantially higher prices.

Market easy. mainly in sympathy with the East but closed frac- tionally above the lowest on little American support.

Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed an increase of 13 tons for the week ending August 29, 1938.

NEW YORK COTTON

Prices went lower on the decline in securities following on re- ports from Europe of war dangers and further eased on Liverpoci selling and liquidation, with the off-take poor. Towards the close, the market weakened still further on additional liquidation and for-

ign selling, and prices ultimately closed barely steady.

NEW YORK RUBBER

political The weakness of the London market and European tension caused a lower opening and prices further receded on conn- mission-house liquidation and selling by outade interests. Large Iactory interests bought on the scale down and prices partially reacted before the close of the market

CHICAGO WHEAT

After a steady opening, the market drifted downwards on "pro- ft-taking liquidation of September position, the heaviness of securi- ties and the apparent inablilty of Canada to agree to a cooperative wheat export plan. It is feared that this will result in an interna- tion struggle for the export markets, with a consequent lowering effect on prices.
