HANKOW OBSERVES WAR ANNIVERSARY

Hankow, August 14.

Standing besides the ruins of Japanese air bomb- ings, women and children shouted.

"Down with the Japanese militarista" when pub. licity corps approached them to explain the signi- Acance of the war of resistance....

This was a unique picture of what happened in the Wuban cities yesterday when the Chinese solemnly observed the first anniversary of the hostilities in the Shanghai area.

A hundred publicity corps were sent out extend- ing comfort to the wounded soldiers ima refugees and to impress the people with the importance of resisting Japan to the bitter end.

At B a.m, shortly after an air raid mass meetings were held in Hankow and Wachang. Decisions were reached at the meetings to send telegrams to Cendrallesimo Chiang Kai-shek, paying respects to him for his leadership, and to the Chinese troops fighting at the front as well as the wounded soldiers and the families of the fallen heroes, extending comfort to them.
