Abstract of the Expenditure and the various Returns attached to it.
The Decrease on the Expenditure for 1851 as compared with that for the previous year is £1793. 11. 14, viz £1158. 19. 73/4 on Establishment; and Miscellaneous services, and £634.11.181/2 on Public work, and excepting the Expenditure in 1854 has been less than during any of the previous years.
The reductions made in some of the items of Public works, the salaries and Offices have effected the general Expenditure only partially; it will first show and the full extent will itself in the Expenditure of the current year. As compared with the Estimate the Expenditure is £3126.6.1 more on all heads, but as £5,289.5.91/2 have been paid for works and Buildings out of the sums estimated for under previous years, it follows, that the actual Expenditure belonging to the year 1851 is less by £2163. 5. 31/2 then the amount estimated for. The Remarks to the Comparative Statement will explain the difference on each item.
