The annual Prize Day of St. Stephen's College, Stanley, was held yesterday afternoon, when Mr. D. J. Sloss, C.BE., M.A., Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, distributed the pries. It was the 'first visit to the College by Mr. and Mrs. Sloss and a hearty welcome was accorded them by the Rev. E W. L. Martin, M.A., Warden, who
presided at the function.
In the course of his speech, the Vice-Chancellor referred to the military distinctions won by old boys of the College, and said that this must be a source of immeasurable gratißcation to the Councit, the Staff and the boys now at School. In south Shantung. Chinese guerilias, using the tall Kaollang crops as cover are actively harassing the Japanese. Lingyl city was once broken in by the guerillas who inflicted heavy losses on the Japanese garison and withdrew only upon the arrival of heavy Japanese reinforcements. Sporadic fighting.
