The market opened with rates unchanged from Saturday's Clos- ing quotations.
Shortly after the opening the undertone of the market was quiet and dull due to the fact that the Rubber Exchanges in Lon- don and New York were closed on Saturday last.
Later in the session, however, the market became "very steady on reports of firm conditions prevailing on the American Security and Commodity markets as well as on good demand from principal consuming centres, which coupled with a bullish interpretation of President Roosevelt's speech created a very optimistic sentiment as to the future business trend. Both, speculators and traders enter- ed into fresh commitments, but only a moderate. volume of bual- ness was transacted due to the reserved attitude of sellers. Prices gradually advanced by 3/4 cent, but even the higher price-level failed to attract a larger volume of selling.
Closing tone was very steady.

Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed an increase of 1,098 tona for the week ending June 27, 1938.
NEW YORK COTTON
The market was early moderately active and prices advanced on better Liverpool cables, reports of heavy rains and continued good demand for textiles. Sentiment later turned reactionary, on Hiquidation, but offerings, were, wall absorbed by Trade and commis- sion-house buying and prices closed steady at the decline.
NEW YORK RUBBER
The market to-day reached a new high on strong early cables from abroad, favourable tire sales, & better "general demand cover- Ing by shorts and foreign and commission-house buying. Dealer sei- ling and realising caused a partial reaction towards the close, but offerings were freely taken and the resultant decline was slow.
CHICAGO WHEAT
Prices opened slightly downward, but soon advanced on reports of dry conditions in Canada, the absence of moisture in the Spring wheat belt and the strength of the foreign markets. Later, how- ever, there was a downward reaction on Bouth-Western, hedge- selling, prospects of increased receipts from the country and lower reports from Winnipeg.
