EVICTIONS
THE NEW STAMPS
Many Portraits Of The King
Practically all countries of the Empire have now issued stamps of the new reign, and it is therefore possible to see how His Majesty appears on them.
TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 1938.
B.B.C. Man Eats His Hat, Flying
Old School Colours-
Starting weakly on the outer rim, bat rapidly getting into his stride as his teeth' wors down the opposition, Lieut.-Com- mander Woodrooffe, the B.B.C. commentator) recently fulfilled his pledge to eat his hat and be televised doing it.
The hat was, a straw boater, which some kindly soul, to soften the blow, had decorated with the commentator's old school colours.
1
Once he got going, Woodroffe demolished the hat with a rapid In-and-out movement, his mouth carrying him with splendid power and rhythm through the brim.
H
He was visibly tiring as he reached the crown, but stuck to his job. When the last crumb had disappeared, Woodrooffe went home and for supper ate a “hat" made of cake and marzipan.
[Woodrooffe, broadcasting during an exciting moment 'in the cap final, said he would eat his hat if Preston scored. Listeners kept him to his promise, hence this televised maal.]
