Another Catholic musician who
has begun to come into prominence ir. England is Mr. Gerald Gover, who gave his Arat pianoforte re- cital in London last winter and won very favourable comments from the critics.
Hia career is in one way a re- markable one, for he attracted the attention of Cortot when he was a schoolboy and was advised by him to devote himself to music. That was while he was in the English Benedictine College of Ampleforth, where he ran the musical society in conjunction with the Earl of Oxford.
On leaving school he studied for two years with Cortot and spent two summera with Schnabel at Lake Como. He has since studied in London and Paris and shows great promise. He is a cousin, of Maurice Turnbull, who is one of the cricket selectors for the pre- sent Tests.
