Another picture frock in cream poult showed the rather clumsy box-pleated ruching which is typical of the early Victorian skirt line; this was brought up and down on an overskirt which was open in huge petal sections. Some of the new striped tulles were also used for picture frocks: one of these striped in amber and navy was mounted on gold lamė. The general impression of most of the new picture frocks-save the very elaborate Winterhalter models-is of Agurines from a china-cup- board. A great deal of blue and pink in pastel shades is seen in both picture frocks and those that come between these and the moulded gowns. A young girl's evening frock in a deep shade of Ice-blue had pockets of pastel- pink waterlilies on the skirt and the bodice made with a Peter Pan collar, which seemed odd, as it was open at the back.
