LEFT-HANDED GOOGLY

BISLEY MEETING

Four-Day Programme Opens With S.R.(A) Events

Tomorrow will see the commencement of the third annual prize meeting of the Hong Kong Rifle Association, more popularly known to shooting enthusiasts as the "Risley" Meeting.

The first day's programute will consist entirely of S.R. (A) events, namely, the Eapid Fire, Snap-Shooting and Deliberate Com- petitions, plus, of course, the usual "Extra Prize" competitions open to all coniers.

These three competitions should prove particularly interesting as the newcomers to the Colony. The Royal Scots and the Middlesex Regiment. are more or less unknown quantities with the Service Rifle.

On Saturday morning the Council Cup and the Army and Navy Cup will be shot for and in the afternoon the President's Cup and.. the Secretary's Cup Competitions will be held

Everybody was very busy at the Riñe Range yesterday. The mid- week speon and practice shoot was on and a number of men from the Kumaon Eifles were there erecting their tents in ready for the Bisley Meeting which starts tomorrow. It will be interesting to note that this year's annual shoot promises to be more succcessful than its pre- decessors.

Major Murray, who has taken over the duties of Hon. Secretary from Major DH. Drury Goes To The Arsenal

Another Scot Joins Brentford

TRIS £100,000 WORTH of bought and sold footballers in a week has its quest ingles. It leaves one a bit dimy that Sheffield Wednesday should sell a home-made inside-left named George Drury to Arsenal one day and buy an inside-left named Napler from Derby County for the same price—as near as does not milter—within 48 hours, writes a Home correspondent.

Perhaps the answer was supplied by Mr. George Allison, the Arsenal F.C.`manager, who remark- ed that Drory is ilkely to prove just the right type of footballer for the First Division. Drury is pos- sibly a First Division player, and Napler may be assessed as à man likely to be especially successful in the Second Division.

4

A surprising number of footballers think it is easier to be successful in the First Division than in the Second For instance, Arthur Rowe, the 'Spurs centre-half-back, has just a touch of selfishness con- 'nected with his ambition to see the Tottenham club back among the aristocrats......

Having had experience of both, Rowe thinks the First Division is easier for centre-half-backs,

anyhow.

"

So many people have record- ed so many different impres- sions of Drury in his first match for Amenal that the official opinion is worth record- "Ing. Mr. Allison says he was his extremely pleased with first impression of Drury in the Arsenal team He atted in excellently. with Bastin-pic- ture on right and Justihed real optimismTL.

Another queer transfer case is that of George Hunt, who could not get a place in the Spurs' Second Division side a rew months

Arsenal ago. bought him. He led their at- tack and played in both inside forward positions.

Bolton wanderers officials were so impressed that imme- diately they heard Arsenal

would release Hunt the mana- ger and a director started for London and paid a lot of" money for Huat.

Nobody would have had the courage to suggest, last Sep- tember, that before the season had run through Hunt would be the man for whom twn.big transfer cheques would change. hands.

Supporters of Bolton Wan- derers spent weeks arguing whether Calder or Milsom was the better of their two centre- forwards. Milsom is now re- zarded as the "fe-boat" for Manchester City. Hunt, not Calder, 'takes his place.

There has not been so much noise about, the transfer to Brentford of William Waddell. He is a centre-half-back from
