Few pictates have more d:Balte ly made a history than One Night of Lore. Everybody rimem- bers it as the first film to establish music firmly on the film' map.
The man mainly responsible for that pioneer success was the direc- tor. Victor Schertzinger. He is also credited with being the first man ever to write a musical score for a plcture.
Now he is to direct the first. Gll- bert and Sullivan opera ever to be screened.
He will come to Pinewood to do so for General Film Distributors,
next June
Eche:tzinger's record makes him very much the right man for this much-mcoted experiment,
Geoffrey Toye is entitled to feel pleased with hats capture,
Toye is a former musical director of the D'Ovley Carte company. He has been the main mover in ac- quiring the film rights, and he will be in charge of the production.
He had tried persuasion by cable without effect. So he decided he must do his persuading in person.
Three summers ago Toye brought Grace Moore to sing in London. Grace Moore was, of course, the star of Schertzinger's great success.
A telephone call to Miss Moore in Chicago from Mr. Toye in New York produced a glowing letter to Schertzinger. That letter payed. the way, and Mr. Toye's personal
