The Determination Of Anglo-French Co-operation

CZECHOSLOVAKIA QUESTION

London, March 22.

Czechoslovakia continues to occupy the attention of British public opinion, notably in connection with the question as to whether the British Government is prepared to guarantee Czechoslovakian independence.

Lord Noel Buxton, in a letter to the Times to-day, writes that If Britain were to pledge itself to intervene in war to assure the sovereignty of Czechs over the Germans, without first getting to know the wishes of the latter, it might easily be finding itself fights ing against the principle of self-determination.

Lord Buxton proposes that, as in the case of the Saar, a free plebis- cite, under neutral control, should be held in Sudeten, German ter- ritory.

Should the result be that some districts vote in favour of union with Germany, then a neutral com- mission should be entrusted with fixing the new frontier.

The discovery of several human thigh fragments from the Chou- koutien diggings, 30 miles south- west of Peking, it was sald, throw further light on the nature of the bruteman who a half million years ago roamed North China. One thigh bone was spilt at the end, apparently by a sharp rock as if to extract the marrow from the bone.
