BATTLE FOR LUNGHAI JAPAN WANTS STRONGER

Japanese Operations Enlarged

Hankow, February 9. Japanese operations in North Honan and South Hopel have en- larged the field for the prospective battle for the Lunghal Railway to tremendous proportions. Japanese columna are operating in the gen- eral direction of the Lunghai Railway in five provinces, namely, Honian, Hopel, Shantung. from the north railway in Anhwel and Kianges from the south.

The Japanese descent southward is based on Changteh (An- yang). North Honan. The Japanese in this sector have advanced several miles to Chitlen with "no-man's-land" dividing them from Chinese forces to the south.
