TAMAR SWAMPED
On the Navy Ground at Cause way Bay, yesterday, HMS. Tamar suffered a severe defeat at the hands of H.M'S. Adventure, who won by 30 points to all. Special mention must be made of the Adventure's threes whose good handling and fine runs contributed largely to the big acore.
Tamar was one short and was completely swamped by the Ad- venture team which included a number of Navy 1st XV players.
Northcott, Marry-man, Walsham and Jones each had two tries, while Walter and Martin gained one each, Four of the tries were converted. The teams were:-
Philippines.
Tilden To Play
It is now definitely announced that the famous tennis players Tijden. Cochet. Ramillon and Burke, who are making a tour of the East, will be seen in exhibition matches in Singapore during the last week of February.
The matches will be presented by Mr. Julian Frankel The actual dates and the place will be an-
ounced later.
t
Cochet has been here before, but this will be the first opportunity offered in Singapore of seeing Bl Tilden, greatest of all tennis per- sonalities. He was for long the champion, and now as a profes- slonal he continues to attract the most attention of all.
Previous visits of professionals have been handicapped by the fact that there was no effective opposi- thelon to put against them. Ever.
Tournaments will be held TP- gularly and if the authorities will co-operate by granting reasonable condicions. a stadium might even be erected where boxing matches will be staged. During the off season this stadium will be used as a gymnasium or roller-skating rink
when good local players are avall- able, there are dificulties on ac- count of the local players' amateur four professionals status. With travelling together. these dimicul- tles are removed. They play against each other, and spectators see an exhibition of the most popu-
lar game at its best..
TO PLAY HERE
In the meantime the party concerned will be glad if all who TABLE TENNIS STARS desire to figure in his first boxing bill will submit their names and all particulars, including purse expected, to him. These may be sent to the Daily Press office, 15-19 Queen's Road Central and will be forwarded to the promoter.
